A downloadable game for Windows

Despondency is a psychological horror game. It explores several aspects of human life such as mental health, different fears people tend to have and typical ways of dealing with them, psychological toll of the routine, paranoid thoughts and behaviors, as well as the topic of nightmares. It utilizes familiar environments and actions to create a sense of safety for the player, and then uses unpredictability to subvert their expectations.

The game depicts the everyday life of a university student, suffering from hallucinations, paranoid thoughts, and nightmares, who has to deal with them by recording their experiences into a diary and reflecting on them. It takes place over several in-game days, over which various unsettling and outright scary situations happen. Depending on how well the player deals with the situations that occur during these several days, the game wraps-up in a specific ending.

Currently the prototype consists of the main area of the game during Day Zero - the intro to the full game, through which the player will familiarize themselves with a bit of the atmosphere of the conceived product to be. The Demo provides a solid platform for all game systems and mechanics described in the GDD, albeit not all made it into the demo.

Most of the assets in the Demo were either taken from the Unity Asset Store, or made in Unity Editor.
